Howard LaFortune SR, born in June of 1964 in Duncan BC, is an accomplished Coast Salish artist.  He started carving in 1979, being taught by is older brother Doug LaFortune.  Howard is the second youngest of his 6 brothers, all carvers, even many of his nephews carve.  Howard is well known for caving Masks, figures, rattles and clocks.  His favourite subjects include bears, eagles, owls, whales, sharks and the sun.  Some of Howard’s work has been sent away as far as Germany, Switzerland and even Japan.  Howard now resides on Tsawout with his wife and four children.
