Home Dancing Frog Native Arts

All our pieces here at Northwestnativearts.net are proudly handmade by the finest materials such as cedar or silver. Each of our local artists comes to us from the culturally diverse West Coast of Canada. Most of our artist were born and reside here on Vancouver Island.

All native art is connected to

local myth and legend, through the

animals of the surrounding area

or powerful mythical beings that

have accomplished incredible feats.

Many myths and legends are

very similar between neighbouring

tribes but some have very distinct

legends, especially when it comes to myths of origin or creation of the first humans.  Before European contact Natives resided on the land with the animals and were very closely connected to their local ecosystems.  Cedar is actually considered a sacred wood and the raven is the most spoken of in the animal world.

So come and join us on this adventure exploring the less exposed culture of the Northwest coast native people.
